ASSOCIATE COUNSELLOR POSITIONS IN VANCOUVER AND ACROSS BC
Grow with us.
You chose this work for the hour in the room. Somewhere along the way, the job grew. Setting up billing. Sorting out privacy rules. Building every system from scratch.
We're a small BC practice looking for independent counsellors who want to grow with us. Grow your skills. Grow your name. Do it alongside a team that speaks your clinical language.

Who we are
OP Counselling Services sees adults virtually across BC and in person at our office in Fraserhood, East Vancouver. The practice is led by Orli Paling, RCC, MA, Clinical Director, who has worked in this field for more than 13 years.
We work with adult addiction, ADHD, concurrent disorders and trauma. Every counsellor here works in those same areas. That means when you bring a hard case to consultation, the person across from you knows the territory.
We also want you to have a niche of your own. A population, a modality, a kind of problem you can't stop thinking about. We encourage every counsellor here to develop that specialty alongside our core work. It makes you better at what you do, and it helps the right clients find you.
We see people through a biopsychosocial lens. Behaviour makes sense in context. Our job is to help clients find that context and work with it.
How the work splits
Here is the deal, plainly: what we take on, and what we ask of you.
What we take on
-
Marketing. Our website, therapist-matching quiz, blog and newsletter bring people to the practice.
-
Your visibility. We build your bio page with you, in your voice. Your blog posts go out under your name across our channels. We show you how to grow your presence online.
-
Clinical growth. Case consultation with colleagues who work in the same areas, and support as you develop your own niche.
-
Admin. Booking, charting and payments run through Jane. Direct billing is set up with TELUS eClaims, Green Shield, Sun Life and Pacific Blue Cross.
-
Privacy. You get a practice email account so client communication stays secure and PIPA-compliant.
-
Space. A furnished office in Fraserhood for in-person sessions, including Saturdays.
What you're responsible for
-
Show up for your clients. Run your sessions, keep your notes current in Jane, and keep your registration in good standing.
-
Grow your visibility. Keep an active online presence and build your professional network. Your profile helps people find the practice, and the practice helps people find you.
-
Keep learning. Develop your niche, deepen your skills, and bring what you learn back to the team.
-
Own your schedule. You choose the shifts you commit to. A booked shift you leave unfilled carries a vacancy fee, the way it would in any independent practice.
-
Write now and then. Everyone takes a turn in our content rotation. You draft a blog post on something you know well. We edit it and publish it under your name.
-
Show up for the team. Bring tricky cases to consultation, offer your perspective on your colleagues' cases, and tell us early when something isn't working.
Who we're looking for
You'll fit here if you can say yes to these:
-
You're registered and in good standing to practise counselling in BC (RCC or equivalent).
-
You've worked with adults around addiction, ADHD, concurrent disorders or trauma, and you're comfortable when they show up together.
-
You can commit 8 to 12 hours a week across 2 or 3 days, including at least one evening (4 to 8pm) or weekend shift.
-
You're set up, or ready to set up, as a self-employed business, with a municipal business licence.
Newer counsellors are welcome.
The rest is harder to list. You're curious about why people do what they do. You can sit with someone in relapse without flinching. You'd rather ask for help than guess. You want real colleagues, and a place to grow for years.
The arrangement
This is an independent contractor position. You join our team as an Associate Counsellor. We give you the structure, the colleagues and the room to grow.
Fee split
You keep the larger share of each session fee. We walk through the full terms in our first conversation.
Where you work
Virtual across BC, in person in Fraserhood, or both.
A path forward
Your fee split improves as you grow with us. We'll map out that path together when you start.
When this isn't the right fit
We'd rather be honest up front. This probably isn't for you if:
-
You want a salaried job with benefits. This is a contract role.
-
You're looking for a short stop on the way to opening your own practice.
-
You'd rather work on your own than as part of a team.
-
You want a caseload mostly outside addiction, ADHD, concurrent disorders and trauma.
-
You want clients handed to you. A caseload takes time to build, and part of that work is yours.
Ready to grow with us?
Skip the cover letter. Tell us a little about you below. We read every application ourselves. If it looks like a fit, we'll set up a conversation with Orli.
